FEE WAIVERS
Under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 756(a)(4), the Administrator of the ARDC may excuse payment of the required registration fees if payment will cause undue hardship to the attorney. This fee waiver may apply to both current year fees and any applicable reinstatement fees.
To apply for a fee waiver, an attorney must submit a written request that clearly demonstrates that their household income is at or below two times the poverty guidelines established by the United States Department of Health and Human Services for the Contiguous 48 States and the District of Columbia. The attorney’s request shall set forth the adjusted gross income and the number of dependents on the federal income tax return filed by the attorney for the preceding year. A copy of the most recently filed income tax return, including all schedules, should be included with the request.
If no tax return has been filed, the attorney should contact the ARDC Registration Department for further assistance.
The Administrator may require that the attorney submit other information and records that the Administrator deems necessary to determine undue hardship. The Administrator may also take into account other extraordinary economic circumstances.
Information provided to the ARDC pursuant to paragraphs (a)(4) of Rule 756 is deemed confidential.
Fee waiver requests should include the attorney’s ARDC registration number and date of birth and should be sent to the ARDC registration department using the contact information below. Email is the preferred method of communication.
