Reinstatement Fee
|
A $25 per month reinstatement fee is assessed to removed and retired lawyers that wish to register as either active or inactive. This monthly fee is capped at $600 and does not apply to pro bono inactive and pro bono retired attorneys. |

Active
|
Only active lawyers are authorized to practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold themselves out as being so authorized. Active lawyers must pay an annual fee according to the following schedule: |

Inactive
|
Lawyers who register as inactive must pay an annual fee of $121.00. Inactive status lawyers may not practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold themselves out as being so authorized. An inactive lawyer may resume active status by submitting written or online notification of the intent to do so, and by paying the balance of the fee active lawyers must pay for the registration year in which active status is resumed. |

Retirement
|
Lawyers on retirement status pay no registration fee, and may not practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold themselves out as being so authorized. A Retirement status lawyer may switch to active or inactive status by submitting written or online notification of the intent to do so, and by paying a $25 per month reinstatement fee, subject to a $600 cap. The look-back period for calculating this reinstatement fee may include a previous ‘Removed-MR’ status, but subject to the same $600 cap.
No fees are due when switching from any status to retirement status. |

Removed-MR
|
This status refers to lawyers who have been removed from the master roll of attorneys because they failed to register with the ARDC as required by Supreme Court Rule 756. Lawyers who have been removed from the master roll are not authorized to practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold themselves out as being so authorized. Lawyers on 'Removed-MR' status must pay a $25 per month reinstatement fee to switch to active or inactive status, subject to a $600 cap. No fees are due when switching from Removed-MR to Retired. Removed-MCLE
|
This status refers to lawyers who have been removed from the master roll of attorneys because they failed to comply with MCLE requirements. Lawyers who have been removed from the master roll are not authorized to practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold themselves out as being so authorized. Lawyers removed due to noncompliance with MCLE requirements should first contact the MCLE Board at www.mcleboard.org to resolve such compliance issues. No fees are due when switching from Removed-MCLE to retirement status. See ‘Retirement’ above for more information. |

Removed-MR+MCLE
|
This status refers to lawyers who have been removed from the master roll of attorneys because they failed to register with the ARDC as required under Supreme Court Rule 756 and also failed to comply with MCLE requirements. Lawyers who have been removed from the master roll are not authorized to practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold themselves out as being so authorized. Lawyers on 'Removed-MR+MCLE' status must pay a $25 per month ARDC reinstatement fee to switch to active or inactive status, subject to a $600 cap. Such lawyers should contact the ARDC Registration Department to resolve their registration issues and the MCLE Board to resolve their MCLE compliance issues. The MCLE Board can be reached at www.mcleboard.org. No fees are due when switching from Removed-MR+MCLE to Retired. See ‘Retirement’ above for more information. |
