        General Registration Statuses (
Rule 756)
 
        
        
        
        
        
        
            
                
                    | Active lawyers are authorized to practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold themselves out as being so authorized. Active lawyers must

                    **Military, judicial and judicial staff exemptions will not be granted unless and until the fee exemption is requested and the appropriate paperwork is provided. Email registration@iardc.org to request one of the foregoing fee exemptions.

        Lawyers who register as inactive must pay an annual fee of $121.00. Inactive status lawyers may not practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold themselves
        out as being so authorized.* An inactive lawyer may resume active status by requesting a status change on the ARDC online registration portal, and by paying the balance of
        the active status fee for the year in question.
        *Lawyers on inactive status may receive authorization to provide pro bono services under the auspices of an identified sponsoring entity in accordance with Rule 756(k).

        Lawyers on retirement status pay no registration fee and may not practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold themselves out as being so authorized.* A retirement
        status lawyer may transfer to active or inactive status by requesting a status change on the ARDC online registration portal, paying the annual registration fee for the status
        they seek, and by paying a $25 per month reinstatement fee, subject to a $600 cap. The look-back period for calculating this reinstatement fee may include a previous 'Removed-MR'
        (failing to Register) status, but is subject to the same $600 cap. For more information see Removed Statuses section below.
        No fees (registration or deferred reinstatement fees) are due when switching from any status to retirement status.
        *Lawyers on retirement status may receive authorization to provide pro bono services under the auspices of an identified sponsoring entity in accordance with Rule 756(k).

        Limited Licenses and Permissions
        
        
        
        
        
        These rules cover lawyers with a limited license to render legal services and give professional advice only on the law of the foreign country where the foreign legal consultant
        is admitted to practice. 
        Foreign legal consultants must register annually with the ARDC and pay the requisite active annual registration fee.  See fee schedule above under Active Status.

        This rule covers lawyers with a limited license to practice law on behalf of their employer - a single corporation, partnership, association, or other legal entity, the
        lawful business of which consists of activities other than the practice of law or the provision of legal services.* 
        Lawyers admitted under Rule 716 must register annually with the ARDC and pay the requisite active annual registration fee.  See fee schedule above under Active Status.
        Pursuant to Rule 716, the lawyer must notify the Clerk of the Illinois Supreme Court if they cease to be employed as house counsel for the employer listed on their initial
        application for licensure..

        This rule covers lawyers with a limited license to practice law in Illinois while employed by and on behalf of an organized legal service, public defender or law school
        clinical program providing legal assistance to indigent persons. 
        Legal service program lawyers must register annually with the ARDC and pay the requisite active annual registration fee.  See fee schedule above under Active Status.

        Out-of-state lawyers who are eligible to appear in Illinois proceedings upon the filing of a verified statement and the filing of an appearance by associated Illinois
        counsel. The lawyer must serve the verified statement on the ARDC, register annually with the ARDC, pay an annual registration fee of $121, and a per-proceeding fee of $250. 
        Pro hac vice lawyers are required to register and pay the annual registration fee for each year in which the lawyer has an appearance of record in at least one proceeding.
        Pro hac vice lawyers must notify the ARDC registration department at rule707@iardc.org when their involvement in the
        Illinois proceeding has ended.

        Pro Bono Authorization
        
        
        
        
        Lawyers who register as inactive may provide pro bono legal services under the auspices of an identified sponsoring entity pursuant to Rule 756(k). Such authorization is granted
        upon the lawyer's submission of appropriate annual paperwork to the ARDC. 
        Inactive - pro bono authorized lawyers must register annually and pay an annual registration fee of $121.00.
        An inactive - pro bono authorized lawyer may resume active status by requesting a status change on the ARDC online registration portal, and by paying the balance of the active
        status fee for the year in question.

        Lawyers on retirement status may provide pro bono legal services under the auspices of an identified sponsoring entity pursuant to Rule 756(k). Such authorization is granted
        upon the lawyer's submission of appropriate annual paperwork to the ARDC. 
        Retirement – pro bono authorized lawyers must register annually, but no fee is required.
        A retirement status – pro bono authorized lawyer may resume active status by submitting a request in writing to registration@iardc.org of the intent to do so, and by paying a
        $25 per month reinstatement fee, subject to a $600 cap. The look-back period for calculating this reinstatement fee may include a previous 'Removed-MR' (failing to Register) status,
        but subject to the same $600 cap. For more information see Removed Statuses section below.

        Lawyers who have been admitted in another state and not disbarred or otherwise suspended from practice in any jurisdiction may provide pro bono legal services under the auspices
        of an identified sponsoring entity pursuant to Rule 756(k). Such authorization is granted upon the lawyer's submission of appropriate annual paperwork to the ARDC. 
        Out-of-state pro bono authorized lawyers must register annually, but no fee is required.

        Rule 716 allows house counsel with limited admission status in Illinois to provide pro bono legal services without communicating such to the ARDC or partnering with an approved
        legal aid or pro bono organization. Restrictions apply.

        Removed Statuses
        
        
        
        
        This status refers to lawyers who have been removed from the master roll of attorneys because they failed to register with the ARDC as required by Rule 756. Lawyers who have
        been removed from the master roll are not authorized to practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold themselves out as being so authorized. 
        Lawyers on 'Removed-MR' status must pay a $25 per month reinstatement fee to switch to active or inactive status, subject to a $600 cap. See
        Rule 756(h)-(i) for
        more information.
        No fees are due when switching from Removed-MR to retirement status. See 'Retirement Status' above for more information.
         
        
        
        
        This status refers to lawyers who have been removed from the master roll of attorneys because they failed to comply with MCLE requirements. Lawyers who have been removed from
        the master roll are not authorized to practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold themselves out as being so authorized. 
        Lawyers removed due to noncompliance with MCLE requirements should contact the MCLE Board at www.mcleboard.org to
        resolve such compliance issues. See Rule 796(e) and (h) for
        more information on removal and reinstatement due to MCLE non-compliance.
        No fees are due when switching from Removed-MCLE to retirement status. See 'Retirement Status' above for more information.
         
        
        
        
        This status refers to lawyers who have been removed from the master roll of attorneys because they failed to register with the ARDC as required under Supreme Court Rule 756
        and failed to comply with MCLE requirements. Lawyers who have been removed from the master roll are not authorized to practice law based upon their Illinois license or hold
        themselves out as being so authorized.
        Lawyers on ‘Removed-MR+MCLE’ status must resolve both their outstanding ARDC registration requirements and MCLE obligations in order to switch to active or inactive status. 
        To resolve ARDC registration related issues that prevent reinstatement to the master roll of attorneys, such lawyers must comply with Supreme Court Rule 756, and pay a $25 per month reinstatement fee,
        subject to a $600 cap.  Lawyers should contact the ARDC registration department at registration@iardc.org if they have any questions regarding
        their outstanding registration obligations. See Rule Rule 756(h)-(i)
        for more information on removal and reinstatement due to failing to register with the ARDC.
        To resolve MCLE compliance issues that prevent reinstatement to the master roll of attorneys, lawyers must contact the MCLE Board at www.mcleboard.org.
